Håkan Söderlund’s brother cut his neck during the attack in Vetlanda. But the family did not know. Only the day after the attack, Håkan Söderlund himself managed to locate his brother in the hospital. So the family was really worried.

– It is very bad. The police have yet to hear from him, says Håkan Söderlund.

Håkan Söderlund’s brother is one of the victims of the attack in Vetlanda. His throat was severely slit and he was taken to Ryhov County Hospital in Jönköping. There he was admitted to the intensive care unit. He was anesthetized and operated.

However, the police forgot to inform relatives about him. At his home in Vetlanda, his 90-year-old father began to worry. They usually have contact every day. When the son didn’t hear from him Thursday morning, he thought something was wrong.

– Dad contacted me and said that my brother had disappeared. This was the day after the attack. Then I got worried, says Håkan Söderlund.

He himself called the police at number 114 14 and got more connected. The switchboard said you should listen and come back. An hour and a half later, a doctor called Håkan. He said his brother was the victim of the attack, who was seriously injured and was in hospital. The call came at 1 p.m. on Thursday, almost a day after the attack.

Håkan Söderlund only learned that his brother had been the victim of the attack a day later.

Håkan Söderlund only learned that his brother had been the victim of the attack a day later.

– His throat was badly cut. We didn’t fully know that he was lying there with life-threatening injuries. That must not happen. The police could have gone to my father. It had only taken a few minutes, says Håkan Söderlund.

At the same time, he is careful to point out that the police did a very good job of intervening. That they managed to stop and arrest the suspect and help the wounded.

– They did a fantastic job on the site. It is just an advantage in the advantage of how it was implemented. They should be commended for that, says Håkan Söderlund.

He has contact with the hospital several times a day but has not yet been able to speak with his brother.

– You have difficulty speaking after being intubated. The situation has now improved. He has been transferred to the surgery department from the intensive care unit, so he seems positive.

Håkan is shocked after the multiple knife attack where seven were injured by a single perpetrator.

– It was damn dizzying. It’s not something you think will happen in Vetlanda.

Aftonbladet has contacted the eastern region police for comment.
