This year’s Elite race in Solvalla, on May 31, is held with empty audience stands, but with an expected audience record that follows trot broadcasts on TV4.
Solvalla, Svensk Travsport, TV4 and ATG have agreed in a unique collaboration that the final of this year’s elite race will be decided at 20.30 and will be broadcast live on TV4 at 20.00-21.00.
– Since the public doesn’t have a chance to experience the race on the spot, we think it’s great to be able to showcase the elite race finals in Solvalla for the entire Swedish people in the absolute best streaming moment, says Jörgen Forsberg, CEO of Solvalla.
Solvallas Elitlopp 2020 is going to be something completely different from what the public is used to jogging. The elite race weekend is traditionally a great popular festival, with nearly 50,000 visitors as pilgrims to Solvalla during three days of competition from Friday to Sunday. Due to the crown pandemic, all Swedish jogging and galloping courses are closed to the public until further notice and Solvalla announced earlier this week that this also applies to the elite race weekend.
But the weekend of the elite race will be decided as planned, and instead of being on-site, the public can follow the competitions on TV4 channels and on ATG Live.
On Thursday, the decision was made to move the elite final into the night. The key to that decision was that TV4 could offer a live broadcast between 20:00 and 21:00.
– The elite race is one of the most important events of the year in both Swedish and international jogging. We are very happy to be able to show absolute world class jogging in the best broadcast schedule this year on TV4 and in this way contribute to creating a folkloric party in front of the television, says Erik Westberg, Sports Manager at TV4 and C More.
Katarina Widman, ATG Commercial Director, looks forward to the new schedule for the elite race day:
– Of course, it is sad that the framework for the elite weekend cannot be what it usually is and will be this year. But with that in mind, we are excited about the solution now being offered to the streaming and television audience at the best streaming time.
– We believe this can be a day and a night to remember for all who choose to watch, says Katarina Widman.
