The deduction of the abolished qualification period is one of the measures taken by the government together with the cooperating parties in the wake of the pandemic.

The plan was for the qualifying period deduction to return by the end of the year, but the government is now moving forward until the last day of April 2021.

The goal is for everyone to have the opportunity to stay home at the slightest symptom of Covid-19, without having to worry about the economy.

– It is partly about reducing the spread of infection, but it is also a question of equality. Many cannot work from home, but should stay home at the slightest sign, says Magdalena Andersson.

The standard quantity is increased

The cost of an abolished qualification period deduction is estimated at $ 300 million per month. In the budget for 2021, the government has reserved SEK 900 million for the qualification period deduction, but as it will now cost more than that, the government will present an additional amending budget.

At the same time, the standard amount paid by the Swedish Social Security Agency increases from SEK 804 per day to SEK 810.

TT: Should the qualification period deduction be waived entirely?

– It is an important issue that would require an investigation, now we are in a completely different situation. So it is reasonable for an insurance policy to have a certain deductible.
