The defense changes its routine after the robbery

– We come to the conclusion that there are measures that we must take quite immediately, says Therese Fagerstedt, press secretary of the Armed Forces.

A total of eight people have been charged with suspicion of participation in the theft and subsequent manipulation of the two military vehicles of the Off-Road Vehicle 16 model. The vehicles disappeared on 4 February this year from the Enköping military depot.

According to the indictment, two men in their 30s entered the area by cutting a fence and then broke into the warehouse where the vehicles were kept.

The two men have been charged with aggravated robbery and unauthorized access to protected objects. A total of eight people have been prosecuted, including for complicity and complicity in aggravated robbery, aggravated reception and aggravated illicit use.

The Armed Forces began their own investigation in parallel with the initiation of the police investigation into the robbery. That investigation is now complete.

– The final report of the investigation contains proposals for measures to be taken. Some of them have already been taken and others are in progress. But for security reasons, I can’t explain exactly what this means, says Therese Fagerstedt.

– But of course, this has caused us to change some routines, and we take measures that we could have taken anyway.

I found the days after

One of the wild boars was found the day after the robbery in a parking lot outside a nursing home in Tillberga, north of Västerås. The other Galten was found the next day, in Möklinta, in the municipality of Sala, after receiving information from the public.

According to the prosecutor, there was an economic motive behind the theft, but the desire for adventure and interest in vehicles must also have been a driving force.

Several of the suspects deny the crime.

The 16 off-road vehicle, nicknamed Galten, is a four-wheel drive off-road jeep with a powerful six-cylinder engine and automatic transmission. It weighs almost seven tons and can withstand a load of one ton. The maximum speed is 120 kilometers per hour.

Wild boar is primarily intended for troop transport and offers real protection against mines and shrapnel. The vehicle can climb the opposite slope of 60 percent and can also handle a side slope of 40 percent.

Stairs are also not something that stops Galten in the first place – the car sets 35-centimeter-high steps.

The wild boar is manufactured by BAE Land Systems OMC in South Africa and the first copies reached the Swedish Armed Forces in 2006.

According to the lawsuit, the two wild boars together are worth approximately two million crowns.
