The mass slaughter of 17 million minks in Denmark has begun. The work, which was already basically ghoulish, took an even more absurd turn Saturday night when a truck dropped a large number of dead minks on the E45 in North Jutland.
The truck was heading to an incineration plant in the town of Randers when the dead minks fell onto the road. Several cars behind then drove over the dead animals. Just over a mile north of the town of Hobro, the police have blocked a section so that cleanup work can take place.
– There will be many trucks circulating, and it is a pity that it happens, but there is no risk. A dead mink is not dangerous when it comes to crown. It is the exhaled air that is dangerous in this context, and there is no such person when dead, says Karsten Aagaard, a veterinarian with the authority.
– It’s difficult because it’s dark, and first of all you have to find out where the minks are, he says.
The Danish government has decided that all minks in the country will be killed after the coronavirus in mink farms has mutated and spread to humans. According to the police, this involves between 15 and 17 million animals.
