Pia Nilsson is a unit manager in the Malmö City Health, Care and Welfare Administration. She emphasizes the importance of visitation being conducted safely now that the ban on visiting nursing homes has been lifted.

In one week, on October 1, the curfew will be lifted on specialty accommodation in Sweden.

Today, therefore, the city of Malmö sends out guidelines and advice on how housing in the municipality should be opened safely. The focus is on local adaptations and preventing the spread of infection.

– It is the restraining order that has been lifted, but not the social restrictions, says Pia Nilsson, unit manager of the Malmö City Health, Care and Welfare Administration.

During the day, the Malmö city special working group for covid-19 will send information to the various residents of the municipality on how to act before the curfew is lifted in a week. The special working group of the city of Malmö for covid-19 has identified certain general areas, which will now be processed in each accommodation.

– We have had a good preparation on the issues, so when the decision came now on September 15, we already had a base to start looking at. Based on that data, we have now produced a risk analysis, a risk assessment, with slightly different issues, says Pia Nilsson, unit manager for the Malmö City Health, Care and Welfare Administration.

One of the guidelines is to set up a kind of station just inside the entrance with information on where to wash your hands, a bottle of handheld alcohol, and a tabletop sprayer that highlights the importance of meeting safely. The guidelines will be sent to the 41 special homes in the city of Malmö on Thursday. This should be checked at each accommodation so that local adaptations can be made.

– So you need to analyze it based on your local conditions, but now we have still done a general job, where we can provide support and help, where we consider important to open up safely. How does it look in your accommodation? Is it possible and good to be able to meet outside? Then it is not possible to meet inside the resident’s room, says Pia Nilsson.

– Then we must not forget the alternatives that exist, there are digital opportunities and there is the opportunity to meet abroad.

Pia Nilsson emphasizes that it will be necessary to make different adjustments to different homes, but that above all you also have a great responsibility at the individual level so that the opening is safe in terms of infection control.

– If you do this, you really have a shared responsibility to take care of each other in the best way. We really appreciate it, we are finally opening up so you can meet again, but we will do it safely.

Here, Pia Nilsson emphasizes that we must continue to follow the recommendations of the authorities.

– It is the restraining order that has been lifted, but it is not the social restrictions that have been lifted. Here we have enormous confidence in our relatives, who accept these social restrictions that exist. The danger is not over, the virus is still there and now we see and hear that it has increased a bit in Europe and has increased in some parts of Sweden. Social restrictions haven’t gone away, but it’s still just as important to keep your distance, maintain basic men’s hygiene, and feel truly symptom-free and healthy when we visit.

Much of the preventive work lies in continuing to shed light on the recommendations that have existed in recent months, says Pia Nilsson.

– These are the conditions in society that you should try to keep your distance and that you have good basic hygiene, and even better is that you can meet outside.

The city of Malmö will send letters to relatives with information about the inauguration.

– You should feel safe everywhere, family members safe, users safe, and that employees also know how to handle this now that we open.
