As of October 15, the idea was that the limit of spectators in, for example, sporting events would be raised from 50 to 500 people. The government had a plan to decide to relax the ordinance so that it would go into effect in a week. The idea was for it to apply to seated audiences and for spectators to sit one meter apart (apart from two people from the same company who would be allowed to sit together).
But football fans have to put up with it.
The reason is that the spread of the infection has increased in some parts of the country.
In a press conference on Thursday, the Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (s), the Minister of Culture Amanda Lind (MP) and the Secretary General of the Public Health Agency, Johan Carlson, announced that the border remains and that the Decision on relief is postponed to the future.
– We understand that many are disappointed that we would have preferred to have the opportunity to implement aid, but it doesn’t look like that. I, like you, would have liked to see that today we have the opportunity to make a decision about this relief, says Amanda Lind (MP).
– We are still planning to make these changes, but as Lena Hallengren said, we are not doing it today. In order for the government to make such a decision, it is required that the infection situation allows such an exception. The Government maintains a close dialogue with the Swedish Public Health Agency on this part, we obtained their opinions and the Government was recommended not to decide on changes to the Prohibition Ordinance today with reference to the current situation. Therefore, the government postpones the decision on the planned changes. We plan to make a new decision as soon as possible.
Lena Hallengren, Minister of Social Affairs:
– We want to enable more cultural and sporting events and we know that culture and sport have a hard time and we are aware of the importance that the sectors have for all of us and in society. But we have always been clear that we can only make an exception if the situation of the epidemic allows it. The government has obtained an assessment from the Public Health Agency and it is currently not advisable to make changes.
As before, the government has relied heavily on the Swedish Public Health Agency’s assessment of the situation in the country. And FHM CEO Johan Carlson therefore believes it would be wrong to ease restrictions now.
– We have had a relatively good development in Sweden for quite some time. But if we look at the current situation, it is more worrying than before. Several larger counties have a significantly higher spread of infection, including Stockholm, Uppsala but also Skåne. Therefore, our opinion is that it is too early to apply the relaxation of the regulations.
The Allsvenskan season has been played completely without an audience since the first round. Yesterday, the clubs themselves, through the Swedish Elite Football interest organization, made calculations on what they themselves would be a reasonable maximum limit for each club. But so far the restrictions remain at 50 people.
