The C-politician’s proposal: Scrap Habo municipality

Habo Municipality on the outskirts of Jönköping is part of Jönköping County and has approximately 12,000 inhabitants. The central city is Habo and the municipality is very well situated along the southwestern shore of Lake Vättern.

But: Soon, the municipality may no longer exist. The member of the Center Party, Ulf Bertils, has presented a motion to the City Council in which he proposes the closure of the municipality. For P4 Jönköping, he says that 22 percent of the residents of Habo municipality live in the countryside, that it is difficult to move to the city center, and that the countryside ends up in trouble: rural residents simply receive very little attention.

– It requires large investments and Habo cannot do it. It cannot be worse than it is now, it is clear that we cannot afford the field, he tells the radio.

He wants to go back to Västergötland

When P4 reporter Jönköping asks if the solution really is to merge with a larger municipality, Bertils responds:

– It can’t be worse than it is now. You see clearly, we cannot afford the field. We have to invest in the center of the city and then I don’t know if it makes sense to remain as a municipality. So you have to look for other alternatives.

Best of all, Ulf Bertils does not want to merge with any of the neighboring municipalities of Jönköping County.

– I think we have more affiliations with Falköping than with Aneby, for example. It exists for Västgötland reasons, after all we belong to Västergötland.

In the party it is said that there are votes both in favor and against the proposal, which therefore must be taken up in the town hall.
