“We are convinced that Wilma was killed in the apartment and that the suspect subsequently dumped the body,” says Sten-Rune Timmersjö, head of the police department for serious crimes in Fyrbodal.
In November of last year, suddenly, family and friends were no longer able to contact Wilma Andersson, 17. Panic began to grow among her relatives and after a few days the girl’s mother traveled to Uddevalla to try to get answers.
There, the girl had lived for a time in her boyfriend’s house. But when the mother arrived at the house, her boyfriend didn’t seem interested in Wilma’s disappearance.
– He provided her with information about what she would have with her and what clothes she would wear when she left the apartment. But the girl’s mother was able to see that some of these items were left in the apartment, says Sten-Rune Timmersjö.
Blood splatters found in the apartment
When these circumstances reached Daniel Edsbagge, chief prosecutor in Uddevalla, on the morning of November 19, it was quickly determined that the groom would be arrested on suspicion of murder. The boyfriend was arrested in his apartment in the morning, but he firmly denied the prosecution.
But only a few hours later, suspicions that the girl had come to life were reinforced.
– We started a technical examination of the department and as we did not know with certainty what had happened, the technicians proceeded with great caution. They searched the house and quickly discovered that there were large splashes of blood in the apartment.
The techs didn’t want to destroy any evidence and only an easy search of the groom’s house was done. Blood analysts from Stockholm and Gothenburg were requested, but would take a few days to do. It was also decided that the apartment would be investigated with specially trained dogs that can quickly mark the places where the bodies were found and two of them were sent from Germany to Uddevalla.
Dog marked directly by the bed
While waiting for the dogs, a massive search for the girl was carried out. About 150 police officers and thousands of volunteers searched Uddevalla and its surroundings. Both land and waterways were searched and the police carried out numerous knocks on the door in the hope of receiving testimony. But despite the great resources, no business was done.
But that would change immediately as German special dogs were in place at the couple’s apartment on November 28.
– One of the dogs marked directly on the bed. Soon after, the dog marked a cabin bag. He found a package wrapped in several layers of aluminum foil and tape. And there I found the girl’s head.
Wilma Andersson was found dead.
At the same time, the groom continues to reject a crime. According to Sten-Rune Timmersjö, the 15-year-old suspect said for the most part “without comment” and sat quietly.
At the last hearing, when the boyfriend learned about the police investigation, a story occurred to him, but at this point he doesn’t want to tell the police officer.
I have not given up hope for more findings
Now the 23-year-old boyfriend is being charged with murder and serious assault. The trial will begin on May 26 at the Uddevalla District Court.
But despite an extensive police investigation with more than 700 interrogations, 600 councils and assistance from the Swedish Armed Forces and volunteers, no further findings from the girl were found. Something that frustrates Sten-Rune Timmersjö, who, however, claims that the police have not yet surrendered.
– It’s difficult because we don’t have a good idea where the rest of Wilma might be. But since we and aid organizations have searched everywhere on land, we suspect she is in the water. We will continue to follow up and we have also received indications from aid organizations that they will continue to search.
