It is the Danish Republic that writes about the Tyrol alarm. Young Swedes and Danes go to the tourist paradise even though it is actually closed to foreign citizens.
– They say they are looking for seasonal work. But Austria is closed because of the crown, ski tourism is down and there is no work here, says Helmut Mall, mayor of Sankt Anton in the Dominican Republic.
The ski slopes are open, but only for locals. However, young people who have traveled have been seen on the slopes. And the local police confirm to the DR that they have discovered improvised après-ski parties in a haystack near the ski slopes.
– You can also find cool pictures on social media where 30-40 young people hold illegal parties.
The taverns are closed, but canned beer from the local store is drunk at parties.
Many are upset
The local newspaper Tiroler Tageszeitung also writes about young people going to ski resorts. According to the newspaper, they are mainly Swedish, Danish and British.
– On the internet they find advice on how to get here without being stopped, the mayor tells the newspaper.
In Austria, many people are annoyed by the behavior of young people eager to party.
“Young Swedes, Danes and British have après ski in St Anton and at the same time we naively wonder how B.117 and the South African variant of the crown can spread in Austria”writes journalist Isabelle Daniel on Twitter.
Now the authorities will try to get the young tourists to go home. Helmut Mall has sent an informational brochure to St Anton’s residents urging them not to rent homes.
Police have also announced that they have been notified of the problems and will carry out rigorous checks in the near future.
The neighboring town an epicenter
The neighboring town of Sankt Anton, Ischgl, became known as one of the worst centers for the coronavirus in March.
According to Austrian health authorities, at least 6,000 people spread the virus across the country and at least 45 other countries.
The Kitzloch bar is considered the epicenter of the spread of infection. There were several wild après-ski parties held there, despite staff confirming corona infection. Danish Jenni Carlend is one of many who became infected after visiting
– One night we ordered 100 shots and then the waiters blew whistles, I had previously told Kvällposten.
Jenni quickly took a whistle from one of the waiters and held it in her mouth for half an hour while dancing and having fun.
– It would have been a miracle if I hadn’t got infected then, he says.
