The “BD Veritor – System for Rapid Detection of SARS-CoV-2” test has been sold in the US since last summer.
Today, Wednesday, Becton Dickinson announces that it has been granted permission to sell the test in European countries that accept the EU CE marking.
“It really is a groundbreaking introduction,” Fernand Goldblat, Becton Dickson’s European director of diagnostics, tells Bloomberg.
Respond in 15 minutes
According to Becton Dickson, an American multinational pharmaceutical company, a sample is taken from the nose, which is then analyzed in 15 minutes.
The test is 93.5 percent accurate when it comes to identifying positive responses and 99.3 percent accurate when it comes to correctly identifying negative responses, according to the company.
In the US, test boxes sell for $ 250 to $ 300, which corresponds to about SEK 2,250 to 2,700, and the test itself at $ 20 each, about SEK 180.
Fernand Goldblat says it is expected to be able to produce eight million tests per month starting in October and 12 million per month starting in March 2021.
