A preamble that requires explanation.
And you will get it. Be so sure.
The boys are the youngest clique on the team who should have tried other things in the ice hockey world, but together decided to make Timrå their own.
Jonathan Dahlén is the leader of the choir. Shake his hockey stick and create magic. He is the one who directs and controls.
But a conductor needs his orchestra.
A hockey star needs his teammates.
So after the season that was taken from us all this spring, the guys had a decision ahead of them.
# The versatile Albin Lundin, 24, was a hunted gentleman with his 68 points in the basic series.
# Marcus Hardegård, 23, a Puck expert, was leaving for Luleå after a great season.
# Snapper Jens Lööke, 23, heard screams after scoring one point per game.
# Two-way hill Filip Westerlund, 21, considered his alternatives.
# Grater Sebastian Hartmann, 26, was studied by other clubs.
# The cartel name Jonathan Dahlén, 22, had all the SHL clubs behind him.
It’s a sextet worth raising up, but there are more examples of young people who chose to stay.
Like Leon Lerebäck, 20, or Erik Walli Walterholm, 21.
His decision to continue wearing the red and white jersey is one of the cornerstones of Timrå IK’s fall of success.
Another is the elderly.
Hey?
Yes, now all people over 30 have to apologize, but in the context of hockey, players of that age are more or less older men.
Morten Madsen, 33, was already in the team’s lineup. Jonathan Carlsson, 32, med.
But how alone they were.
More were needed.
# Ratade Jacob Blomqvist, 34, was rescued from Brynäs.
# Workhorse Christopher Liljewall, 30, was snatched from competitor SSK.
# Majestic Per Svensson, 32, was picked up after a short adventure abroad.
Players who have experienced heaven and hell, have won and lost, dedicated their lives to ice hockey. Those who understand what is required, those who can carry equipment through the worst kinds of storms.
Now they haven’t needed it. For Timrå IK does not seem to be able to lose.
However, its importance should not be underestimated.
Call them dads, mentors, stadium, support, or whatever you want. His experience combined with the enthusiasm of the younger players is a desirable combination.
A symbiosis that in higher series can be turned into gold. Which at this level can mean a ticket to the league where the money is, where the gold is actually delivered.
I learned to live with a different reality
Kent “Nubben” Norberg is a veteran of the sports management industry. He was intrigued with the troops before Jacob Olofsson’s intention was even.
And in Timrå he has always worked. Except for the years in Frölunda.
The weather in Gothenburg burned him, but it taught him a useful lesson that he took with him. That money can give you great conditions and good opportunities to recruit established players, but it is not an obvious guarantee of success.
Some clubs work differently. Often because they don’t have the same opportunities as the wealthiest.
Timrå IK, with its turnover of SEK 50 million, would like to reach the platform that Frölunda, Färjestad and HV71 have reached every day of the week, where revenues have tripled.
It can be classified as a utopia, because Timrå will never get there.
It was fortunate that they learned to live with a different reality, a different costume.
Partly due to the cheap steel bath the club went through during the years after relegation in 2013, but also because Timrå understood what they are good at. What can they offer.
Young players come to Medelpad to develop first, not to win multum. They are drawn to an environment, created by people who have been there day after day for decades.
# Kicki Höglund has been the team’s masseur since the early 1990s.
# Anders “Hussen” Huss has been washing clothes, sharpening skates for 17 years and has been a constant spreader of joy in the association.
# Fredrik “Freddan” Andersson had the opportunity as head coach in 2017, seized it, developed and stayed despite interest from abroad.
# Anders “Ante” Karlsson was drawn to his Timrå, he is now in his ninth year in the association and is invaluable with his tactical knowledge.
# Kent “Nubben” Norberg has been the club’s sporting director for more than 20 seasons and has been praised as leader of the year in Sweden twice.
# Press presenter Kjell-Åke Tjernström is still pacing the press shelf, he certainly has since Sundsvall caught fire, and when necessary, he is the link between players and journalists.
# Dentist Åke Thimstrand has been grinding, screwing and fixing teeth on players for decades.
# The couple John Westin and Sandra Nordenberg are the latest additions. Although they have only been under Timrå’s leadership for a couple of years, they have been acclaimed in unison. Sandra for her demanding physical training, John for her hard work.
Only team doctor Christian Johansson and goalkeeping coach Michal Zajkowski can be considered new acquisitions.
In an age of mercenaries, the men’s team personnel have been incredibly intact. It has given a sense of security to all players, old and new.
That’s why the boys stayed. And the old men decided to come.
Because Timrå IK is still Timrå IK.
