Shortly after 11 a.m. local time Saturday morning, CNN assessed for the first time that Joe Biden would win the US presidential election. Later, the channel was followed by other media houses. In Sweden it was then just after 5 p.m.
The announcement came after the state of Pennsylvania updated the vote count with new numbers.
– CNN estimates that Joseph R. Biden junior is elected the 46th president of the United States. We can make this calculation because CNN also estimates that Biden will win Pennsylvania, said at the time the host of the channel Wolf Blitzer.
Then Joe Biden pointed as the winner in Michigan and Wisconsin on Wednesday night, he has garnered 253 electoral votes. With the win at Pennsylvania, he now has 273, which is three more than the 270 needed to win.
The AP news agency has also made the same assessment as CNN. When Joe Biden was announced as the winner in Pennsylvania, and the presidential election overall, the Democrat led by 34,243 votes. 98 percent of the votes had then been registered in Pennsylvania.
By AP calculations, there may not be enough votes for Donald Trump among the uncounted votes for him to run for Joe Biden. Two percent is certainly more than 34,243, but since some of these are also votes for Joe Biden, the AP believes, like CNN, that there is no reasonable chance that Donald Trump will catch up.
Later on saturday tried Various media outlets that Joe Biden also wins the state of Nevada, where the New York Times was one of the first to crown him a winner. There he leads with 49.9 percent against 47.9 with 94 percent of the votes counted. A victory in Nevada brings him to 279 electoral votes.
Fox News, at half past nine on Saturday night Swedish time, has gone further than most of the others in its calculations. They believe Joe Biden also won the state of Arizona, where the position is 49.5 to 48.9 with 97 percent of the vote counted. It expands its majority to 290 voters, 20 more than required.
None of the previous media estimates that the result is clear in North Carolina, Georgia or Alaska.
