Following the recent protests in Thailand, the highly criticized King Maha Vajiralongkorn has made a rare appearance on television.
“I think now you understand that the country needs people who love the nation and the monarchy,” said the king.
Rather, the declaration gave the opposite result and people have again taken to the streets to demonstrate.
Anyone who criticizes the Thai monarchy runs the risk of imprisonment. Since Thursday October 15, more than five people have also been banned from gathering in Bangkok for 30 days.
During the same period, it is also prohibited to publish news or other messages that could “create fear”, affect the security of the nation or destroy public morals.
The new bans were introduced suddenly, at four o’clock on Thursday afternoon. The country’s development has been criticized by the human rights organization Amnesty International.
“These arrests and sudden emergency measures announced in the middle of the night are just some of the increasing attacks on freedom of expression and peaceful assemblies,” the organization’s regional campaign director Ming Yu Hah said in a statement.
But protesters who protested multiple rounds over three months defy the risks and carry on. In Bangkok, the finger gesture from the “Hunger Games” movies has been used.

The king demands love
The king, who, among other things, has taken more than $ 30 billion, equivalent to 265 billion Swedish crowns, from the monarchy for himself, has long been criticized for being undemocratic.
When he now came out and tried to stop the protest movement with a call to be useful to the country, it hardly led to a greater calm in the streets.
“I think they now understand that the country needs people who love the nation and the institutions of the monarchy,” King Maha Vajiralongkorn told state television on Friday night.
“All the experiences you have had and all the work you have done can be useful. You can teach new generations everything that has happened. It will be incredibly useful, “said the king.

Today, Saturday, there have been demonstrations for the fourth day in a row. The police struck most of the peaceful protests with colored water cannons a week ago, something that is also criticized by Amnesty International.
Support from former politicians
Many protesters express their discontent with the way the country’s former prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, was ousted in 2014 and replaced in favor of the current prime minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha of the junta.

Now Yingluck Shinawatra himself has taken to Twitter with a statement addressed directly to Chan-ocha:
“Today, what happened to me has also happened to you, with more than 100,000 students and Thais demanding your resignation … I hope you remember what you asked of me and that you immediately make the decision that leads the country to peace. and wellness”.
Despite the anger of the people, today’s demonstrations have been peaceful, reports Nikkei Asia.
