On Tuesday, the Swedish Public Health Agency reported 61 new deaths and 15,084 new confirmed infections in Sweden since last Friday. At the same time that the infection is increasing more and more in Sweden, it now seems to be improving somewhat in Europe.
– It begins to calm down in Europe. It can be seen in individual countries with a large increase in early fall that is starting to stabilize. We hope this development will continue even if it is too early to say, says Anders Tegnell, a state epidemiologist at the Swedish Public Health Agency.
“It depends on how good we are”
But if Sweden can follow the same pattern, it is too early to respond, says Tegnell.
– It appears that many countries follow a similar pattern during the fall, with a rapid recovery that then slows down and turns into a recession. It is very difficult to assess whether Sweden will also follow this pattern and how slow or fast it will go. It all depends on how good we are by following the recommendations we make.
At the same time, the Swedish Public Health Agency announced that it would extend general councils in Uppsala and Skåne, which were the first to receive special councils, until December 13 in the two regions. This means that currently only one region of Sweden is not covered by stricter crown councils: Jämtland Härjedalen.
They can become national councils
But at the same time, the Public Health Agency has the ambition to close all local general councils before December 13. So the idea is to present national councils during the Christmas and New Years holidays as many trips between different regions are expected.
– We will try to provide national advice instead, as we understand that it will be very difficult to understand exactly what advice applies otherwise. We will come back to him when he gets a little closer in time, says Anders Tegnell.
