Last week, sports and culture expected the seated audience limit to be raised to 500 people, something the Swedish Public Health Agency had previously opened to. But that did not happen. The audience limit of 50 viewers that has been introduced due to the spread of the coronavirus remains fixed for the moment.
At the same time, many gather, for example, in shopping malls and also in nightclubs, which, however, are obliged to follow restrictions that, for example, only allow guests to drink when seated at the table.
Regarding the weekend photos of Swedish nightclubs, Tegnell spoke during Tuesday’s press conference to the responsibility of municipalities to ensure that the guidelines are followed.
The Swedish Public Health Agency has Several times before he transmitted that an increase in the audience ceiling at cultural and sporting events to 500 spectators would not imply a greater risk of increased contagion if it is a seated public and it is possible to maintain at least one meter of distance.
Isn’t it problematic to maintain restrictions that are likely to be ineffective while allowing large crowds in other parts of society?
– The fact that it is not good in one place in society does not legitimize it to get worse in even more places, says Anders Tegnell.
– Yes, you can imagine reducing the restrictions, but you don’t like to do it in a situation where it seems that the spread of the infection is increasing, but you want to do it in a stable situation so that you know what is happening.
Outdoor sports like For example, orientation and exercise races are also waiting for information on the easing of restrictions, in order to carry out their events. On Thursday, Sports Minister Amanda Lind announced that the Swedish Public Health Agency would be tasked with reviewing the issue, but the agency has yet to receive that assignment.
– There are many businesses that could be organized in a way that does not create congestion, how then to do it and based on the legal space we have to regulate it, that is what remains, says Tegnell.
To a follow-up question from Skogssport magazine about the illogical fact that large crowds are allowed in shopping malls at the same time that the 50-person limit regulates an orientation competition, Tegnell replied:
– Remember what the basic question is and the basic question is that we must make sure we keep our distance and that we do not create situations in which many people stay together for long periods.
– We have done it in Sweden with the best tools we have, some tools need to be adapted to be more effective, but we must all take responsibility for ensuring that these events do not occur, regardless of whether there is legal support. or not.
