As more and more residents of other countries put on mouth guards, Sweden and the Swedish Public Health Agency choose to ignore the recommendation.
Some researchers and reports report that mouth protection does not help, and some claim otherwise.
Tom Britton, professor of mathematical statistics at Stockholm University, tells Dagens Nyheter that he is “a bit in the middle.”
– I think you should avoid congestion, which is by far the most important advice, and stay home when you have symptoms. But in some situations it’s hard to avoid congestion and then I think mouth protection can be good, says Tom Britton, to DN.
Sent 100 emails
Britton has sent more than 100 emails to Anders Tegnell since the beginning of March, where, among other things, he questioned the strategy of the Public Health Agency.
– In almost all other countries, mouth protection is recommended. I think the Public Health Agency has been a bit of a coward there. They say that if you wear a mouth guard, you may not want to avoid congestion. That, of course, would not be nice. But as long as it says “Keep avoiding congestion. Wear mouth guards when traveling on public transport, but avoid municipal transport as much as you can anyway, ”so I don’t understand the danger with them, he tells DN.
“Tegnell has a hard time admitting mistakes”
Tom Britton believes critical voices are needed. Therefore, he is positive about the 22 researchers who have raised their objections.
– So I think both camps are too dogmatic. The Swedish Public Health Agency and Anders Tegnell seem to have a hard time admitting mistakes. The other side seems to think that basically everything the Public Health Agency does is wrong. So I’m not talking about 22, but it seems that there are people who think that Anders Tegnell wants a lot of Swedes to die. That he is a malicious person who has a hidden agenda consisting of killing as many people as possible, he tells DN.
