Christmas is approaching and in many families Christmas planning is probably in full swing at this time.

But now the state epidemiologist is sounding the alarm before Christmas celebrations: Giant family holidays are not appropriate.

– I myself intend to celebrate in a small family circle, says Tegnell.

This year, to say the least, has looked different due to the corona pandemic.

Now it seems that Christmas will also be different. In any case, if you have a large family and are trying to follow the advice of Anders Tegnell and the Public Health Agency before the big celebration of the weekend.

The eased restrictions for people over 70 should not be construed to mean that you are free to hug and hug Grandma in front of Kalle Anka and be crowded with the whole family around the Christmas table.

– We have to be careful when we stay close to each other and that still applies, says Tegnell.

Avoid giant family parties

They are mostly the largest collections of family members of which Tegnell is skeptical. Large family parties with guests traveling from across the country to meet up are not appropriate when it comes to Christmas in times of pandemic.

“Find a place”

Tegnell does not leave an exact number of how many you can be when you meet at Christmas. One thing it does say, however, is that smaller families can get together, if you have certain things in mind. For example, if you already meet relatively often and are living large, or can find a venue, you can host a cozy Christmas celebration without the crowds, Tegnell told TV4 earlier this week.

Tegnell points out, however, that it is of utmost importance that older relatives in that case maintain physical distance.

How should you celebrate Christmas yourself?

– It will be in a small family circle, answers the state epidemiologist.

If you live big enough or rent a room to keep your distance, you may be fine with a bigger Christmas celebration, Tegnell says. The image is a genre image.
