Just days before he was attacked and killed near his workplace in Conflans Saint-Honorine, Samuel Paty, a history and geography teacher, had taught his students a free speech lesson.
During the lesson, it is said that he showed those present a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad. This is to explain the course of events in the bloody terrorist attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo 2015. A 15-year-old student, who met Samuel Paty, tells TV BFM which he did for several years as part of a teaching program.
Father: did not want to discriminate
But this time, the cartoon is said to have upset at least one of the students’ parents who sent a complaint against Samuel Paty and made a post about him on social media. Paty must have received death threats. Rumor has also spread in the school that he was racist and Islamophobic.
But not everyone agreed that this was the case. According to several parents and children at the school, he was a good person who loved his job.
– He did not do this to create controversy, discriminate or insult children, a father of one of Patys’ students, 13, tells BFM TV.
– My son told me he was a very nice person.
