Task: Johnson appoints pro-Brexit BBC leader

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to appoint two pro-Brexiters, who are deeply critical of the reports from the BBC media company, to major UK media publications.

Johnson wants to appoint one of them as president of the large utility company, The Times reports, citing sources close to the prime minister.

According to the newspaper, Johnson has asked Charles Moore, who has previously been editor-in-chief of the conservative daily The Daily Telegraph, if he might consider becoming president of the BBC.

The British Prime Minister is also said to have asked Paul Darce, who has been the editor-in-chief of the right-wing tabloid Daily Mail, if he wants to become chairman of the British media authority Ofcom.

Both Moore and Darce have previously accused the BBC of having a left-wing agenda in its news coverage and of pushing the boundaries of its mission to provide a public service to citizens. To a large extent, this has applied to the UK’s decision to leave the EU after a referendum in 2016, commonly known as Brexit.

The BBC rejects the criticism.
