France is considering a second national shutdown due to a sharp increase in the spread of the infection in the country, reports BFM TV.

In France, as well as Italy and the United Kingdom, corona infection has returned to spring levels.

President Emmanuel Macron will deliver a speech to the nation on Wednesday night, and then he is expected to present the measure to shut down the country for a month, BFM TV reports.

“We have to prepare for difficult decisions,” Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin told France Inter radio on Tuesday.

French hospitals reported 532 new covid-related deaths during the day. This is the highest number in the country since April.

During the day, more than 33,000 new cases of infection were noted. However, infection rates were lower than Sunday’s record of more than 52,000 new cases over the course of 24 hours.

The number of intensive care patients in France could reach the same level as during the culmination of the pandemic in April if no action is taken, says government spokesman Gabriel Attal.

About 150 people were admitted to the intensive care unit on Tuesday. On Monday, 186 new COVID-19 patients were admitted to intensive care.

Strong increase in Italy

In neighboring Italy, there have been 221 crown-related deaths in the past 24 hours. This is the first time the death toll has exceeded 200 in the space of 24 hours since mid-May.

Almost 22,000 new cases of covid-19 have been found in Italy in the last 24 hours, announces the country’s health ministry. This is the highest daily figure since the infection was first discovered in the country.

Like the spring infection wave, the Lombardy region, in northern Italy, is one of the most affected: more than 5,000 of the cases in the last 24 hours were registered in the region.

In total, more than 560,000 cases of the infection have been detected in Italy and more than 37,000 people have lost their lives since they were infected.

British restrictions

Also in the UK, a second wave of infection appears to have occurred: 367 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the highest number since May.

At the end of March, a week after the country was shut down to stop the spread of the infection, the corresponding figure was 374.

Infection levels have been relatively low since the nationwide lockdown was lifted in early summer, but are now starting to rise again: Nearly 23,000 new cases of the infection were reported Tuesday.

To prevent the new wave of infections from being too long-lasting, local restrictions have recently been introduced in various parts of the country.

Italy has about 60 million inhabitants, Great Britain about 66.5 million and France about 67 million.
