NEW YORK. Pang, boom – knockout!
Tampa Bay won the inaugural conference final tonight against the New York Islanders with astonishing 8-2 elimination numbers.
– But he’s still only 1-0 in the series so we don’t pull too much on the numbers, careful scorer Victor Hedman tells Sportbladet.
It’s been a week since Tampa played its last game, so there were those who wondered if the Florida favorites were rusty when the Eastern Conference Finals began last night at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
But not exactly.
They came out hungry for lions who haven’t eaten in weeks, came up with a 3-1 lead already in the first period and thus won at the end with 8-2.
“It must be some kind of record”
Even more remarkable: they played 58.53 minutes without missing a goal with a single shot.
– Yes, that later there must be some kind of record. All right, Victor Hedman says when we talk to him later.
– But we do not use too large gears in these figures. It doesn’t matter if you win 8-2 or 1-0. It’s just about winning. We know what we can do and we do not think of anything other than doing what we will continue to do.

Victor himself was once again so magnificent in his role as commander of the army, both offensively and defensively, that the American experience basically spoke in tongues about him. He scored a goal himself, from the blue line, and scored one with a superb performance against two-goal shooter Brayden Point. In addition, he stood out for the assists in the final goal of Yanni Gourde.
– I always pretend to be one of the best on the ice and have good confidence in myself now. You understand it when you play with the players around me, he says.
Hedman has now scored 12 points (6 + 6) in 14 games in this year’s playoffs.
“Just to forget”
The islanders had their chances in the match, but they looked tired. It’s only been two days since they won their Game 7 against Philadelphia, and they have since flown across the continent to Edmonton. However, this is not something they want to blame.
“We had our chances to decide our series as soon as Tampa decided theirs, but we didn’t,” says Martin Matt.
In short: you deserve to rest, or not.
– Tonight we lost the game balls. It’s just a matter of forgetting and starting to focus on game number two, says team captain Anders Lee.
