Swedish player Carl Starfelt tested positive for covid-19

Carl Starfelt played 75 minutes against Denmark on Wednesday. On Thursday, the entire Swedish team was tested and the Starfelt test came back positive. A retest of the midfielder was conducted on Friday morning and responses are expected on Friday or Saturday.

– Carl is fine and is now isolated in his hotel room according to UEFA protocol and local infection control rules, says national team doctor Anders Valentin.

The 25-year-old plays every day for Russian league club Rubin Kazan. He made his debut for the national team against Russia in Moscow last month.

Federation Captain Janne Andersson it is not included in the current national team meeting, as a family member was found infected for the first time. Andersson was later informed that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Other Swedish players and leaders will be tested again on Saturday morning before the important match against Croatia.

The opposing team has also been affected by the corona virus. On Wednesday, Croatian midfielder Domagoj Vida had to resign at halftime in the meeting with Turkey after a preliminary test result showed he was infected with corona.

Vida was immediately isolated and did not accompany the team to Stockholm.
