Oskar Svensson was responsible for a spectacular change in tactics in the men’s sprint World Cup final, when he opted to drive completely smoothly. The Swede did not keep up with the race and is now fooled by both his rivals and himself.
It was Sweden’s World Cup gold on the women’s side through Jonna Sundling, while the men’s final ended with a triple win for Norway. Sweden’s medal jump in the men’s final, Oskar Svensson, was a big mistake.
It turned out that Svensson despised his classic skis before the final in favor of skate skis. Yle Sport expert Matias Strandvall was skeptical of the choice from the start of the race, and he was right.
Svensson was suspended early and had nothing to say in the medal fight.
– Oskar Svensson gets rid of himself, tested a thief to no avail, Strandvall stated on the live stream.
The winner Johannes Høsflot Klæbo was at the finish line 20 seconds ahead of Svensson. Klæbo’s Norwegian compatriot Emil Iversen, himself eliminated in the semi-finals, was completely incomprehensible to Svensson afterwards.
– I do not understand? It is completely useless: give the medal away. It seems he didn’t want a medal, Iversen exclaimed for Expressen.
No spontaneous decision
Swedish electoral director Petter Myhlback revealed to the newspaper that Svensson decided the surprising ski choice in a possible final as early as Wednesday.
The skier himself confirms to Aftonbladet that the decision was founded. At the same time, Svensson agrees with the Norwegian critics.
– I have had a plan for a long time to move on to bet on the final and I felt very confident in that decision. So it was completely wrong. It feels very heavy.
– It feels completely idiotic in hindsight. At the same time, it was an opportunity to really challenge. It was an opportunity for something really good, one that doesn’t feel close to coming home, Svensson tells the newspaper.
Finnish men’s trio Ristomatti Hakola, Joni Mäki and Lauri Vuorinen finished third in their respective quarter-finals.
