The breakthrough in the negotiations comes after a Swedish delegation from the Foreign Ministry traveled to northeast Syria.

Expressen has previously reported on the delegation that was sent to bring the children home to IS sympathizers.

At the site in northeast Syria, the delegation has also met with the Kurdish authorities to discuss the issue of Swedish IS women.

– In fact, the judicial process has already started. During the summer, we have examined each case more closely. In January or February 2021, it is realistic that trials against women will begin, Shiyar Ali, representative of the Kurdish self-government in Sweden, tells SVT Nyheter.

“Ready to ship to Sweden”

Syrian Kurdish foreign policy spokesman Abdel Karim Omar told the channel that they and Sweden have agreed that those who have committed crimes will be brought to justice in Syria.

– We are prepared to send orphaned children and humanitarian cases to Sweden, he says.

Several sources have told Expressen that the delegation will meet with Swedish IS families who are in camps controlled by the Kurdish-run SDF.

– They should sit down with each woman at the same time and ask if she agrees to let her children return to Sweden, said a source.

Expressen has also spoken about Islamic State women who said they received visits from Swedish officials several times last year when they were in the camps.
