The most important reason for the large number of deaths in Swedish nursing homes is probably the wide spread of the infection in society. This was stated by the Crown Commission in its first interim report.
The Commission intends to come back with an investigation into why Sweden contracted so much, but Kristersson has completed his analysis:
– I find it so difficult to understand why the government cannot simply say: “It has failed. The strategy has not worked. Let’s do better together, “Kristersson said when debating Interior Minister Mikael Damberg (S) and left-wing leader Nooshi Dadgostar in Aktuellt on Tuesday.
Mikael Damberg said there was a lot of support behind the Swedish line this spring.
– We have a responsibility, but it is also true that we have had a fairly broad line-up in Sweden to listen to the advice and recommendations we have received.
Kristersson on strategy: Extra failed
He also denied that it was the strategy that was wrong.
– The first point of the strategy is to reduce the spread of the infection. I have not experienced that this is what is wrong with strategy. However, measures must be constantly developed.
Kristersson:
– If the strategy was to keep the spread of infection low, it has not been very successful.
He gave examples of how the strategy should change according to him.
– Now it should be faster: fast on flights, fast on pandemic legislation.
– If it is better with a mouth guard than with a mouth guard, which we have obviously changed now, let’s say well: use a mouth guard on all occasions when there may be congestion.
Leftist leader Nooshi Dadgostar, on the other hand, took note of the other conclusions of the Crown Commission: on the structural deficiencies in the care of the elderly that current and previous governments knew about but did not address, and that the measures when the pandemic struck they were too late and insufficient.
“The staff is so low that the staff has worked to death, but has not been able to save people’s lives,” said Nooshi Dadgostar.
