The Cross Country Ski World Cup starts in one week in Ruka. The Norwegian and Swedish stars rehearsed at home on Friday and it was family names that topped the results charts.
The women’s classic mile at Bruksvallarna was a duel between Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson. The victory went to Andersson, who had 3.2 seconds to spare for Karlsson in goal.
– Before the competition, I felt that I was in a good phase before the season, and now I also have it confirmed, that I maintain a high level. It’s really fun to start the season, Andersson tells SVT Sport.
Andersson and Karlsson were in a class of their own in the race. Third Emma Ribom lost by one minute and 21 seconds against Andersson.
The Swedes have gone wrong in recent seasons. The big stars Calle Halfvarsson and Jens Burman did not compete in the 15-kilometer race with classic technology.
In his absence, victory at Bruksvallarna came surprisingly for long distance specialist Max Novak against William Poromaa and Gustav Eriksson.
Kläbo top sprintetta
The Norwegian season premiere took place in Beitostölen. On the program was the classic sprint.
Johannes Hösflot Kläbo was one of the favorites who endured. He won by two seconds ahead of second Erik Valnes. Only Håvard Taugböl was third.
– It was good to start the season well. I probably have better skis in stock than the ones I carried today. I chose not to go with the best ones because I wanted to save them, Klæbo tells Norwegian TV2.
Lotta Udnes Weng was superior in the women’s sprint. She drew from the second Ane Appelkvist Stenseth and from the third Anna Svendsen at the end of the final.
The Finnish elite meet in Taivalkoski for the weekend. The Finnish Cup program includes a classic sprint on Saturday and a classic of ten (ladies) and fifteen kilometers (men) on Sunday.
Yle broadcasts the competitions in Taivalkoski live on TV2.
