– I’ll be a millionaire in euros in 30 days, says a man to the camera. The video is posted on the Bitcoin Code website, which DN has been able to show is a tool for fraud.
Many people come to the Bitcoin Code through advertisements and counterfeit articles online, where celebrities such as Fredrik Skalvan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Filip Hammar are said to reveal their investment tricks. Everything is made up, with stolen photographs and fictitious quotes.
But those who click on the Bitcoin Code website meet Swedes who actually say that the investment has been successful. They appear in a movie that, unlike celebrity ads, is not a fake. However, nothing they say is true.
Everyone talks about impressive returns versus small investments. They have become rich in a short time without taking any major risks.
One of them says that he has been able to stop working, that he has paid off his loans and financed his children’s education.
The purpose of the film is clear: to convince the visitor that the service works as promised and that they can deposit their money safely.
But the characters in the movie He has not invested money but stands up with a voice and image against payment. DN has managed to identify and contact one of them, who confirms that what was said was fabricated for a fee. The person has also described in detail how the recruitment went.
It all starts with a site that provides freelance services, such as graphic design or programming. The task is described as a simple performance, all that is required are sufficient language skills. The person accepting the assignment can film himself when he reads the message on investment excellence.
The movie clip must then be shipped to the customer. Payment is done online and the entire process can be completed without people having to meet face to face. The ad appeared to have been posted by a small Israeli company, with unclear contact information. Today, the company’s website has been removed.
The person DN has identified says he made the recording more than two years ago. What you thought then about the purpose of the movie you do not remember, says the person and describes it as a simple acting job.
– I’m an actor. Got a job through a freelance site, it says and continues:
– It is unfortunate that the video was used for the purpose of misleading people, but this is not something I have any control over.
Payment for such assignments are usually small. In today’s similar service announcements, freelancers offer to do the job for as little as a few hundred SEK.
The Bitcoin code and other similar sites promise a sophisticated investment tool that will provide rapid growth of the money invested. In fact, the website is just one way for scammers to collect contact information. When the DN reporter tried to register, salespeople from other companies quickly began to contact the phone number used.
Swedish films are only part of the marketing. Nearly identical movie clips in German, Spanish, and Italian spread the same message, even those with testimonies from people standing in front of the camera.
