According to the Minister of Social Affairs, Lena Hallengren, the proposal to introduce an alcohol ban was presented because “all indications” point to a further spread of the infection.
And now it is not at all impossible with even stricter directives.
– Regional councils have existed for some time in much of the country. They are powerful and imply great limitations in people’s daily lives. For example, it’s about only having physical contact with the people you live with. Do not go to parties, do not go to shopping centers, events or gyms. These are all measures that contribute to shutting down much of society, says Lena Hallengren.
“It comes down to the responsibility of the individual”
Countries like the UK and France, which are now more or less completely closed, started with softer restrictions, such as changing hours for restaurants, during the fall and then blocked a second time.
In Sweden, the prohibition of alcohol is the strictest yet.
– It all comes down to the individual’s responsibility to follow these rules of conduct. Since we obviously didn’t make it, you need to try other instruments. And then alcohol prohibition may be one of those, says Anders Nystedt, an infection control physician at Norrbotten, and says the next step may mean restrictions for stores.
– But it’s about not giving people a chance to get to know each other. That’s what it’s about.
This spring, when the spread of the infection returned to Sweden, people were advised to travel no more than two hours so as not to overload medical care and spread the infection. Similar recommendations have been introduced locally where the spread has increased, such as in Värmland.
Norrbotten Infection Control Doctor Believes “Slow Down”, but it continues to act with local recommendations and prohibitions, which may be more.
Not likely to turn off completely, it says:
– But it’s probably good if you hit the brakes a little bit over and over again. Having regional restrictions is one of those things.
Must legislate
Fredrik Sund, an infection physician at Uppsala University Hospital, notes that “more people need to become ambassadors” and help those who do not respect the restrictions.
– Your own responsibility may no longer be enough, he says.
– You have to become clearer, stronger and attract people in a different way, because you have not succeeded. There are many suggestions as to what the next step may be, the final final step if everything keeps falling apart, then clearly we will land there (to introduce a ban, editor’s note). We cannot have a society where the spread of infection only increases and increases.
Tegnell: Will continue to do so
Tove Fall, professor of molecular epidemiology at Uppsala University, believes, as does Fredrik Sund, that the next few weeks will be decisive for Sweden’s path. He also believes that hospital admissions will increase in the near future, as there is “a stopping distance from reducing the spread of infection until it shows in medical care.”
– If medical care is overloaded, I hope that more measures will be taken, but these decisions are at the level of authorities and politicians and it is not entirely clear to me how they reason about it, says Tove Fall, who believes that the next step may be to introduce directives. on distance education in universities and colleges again.
At the same time, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell says that Sweden is not in a change of direction at all, but that the job is to analyze where the risks are in society.
– I do not believe that legally we will adopt draconian closure measures. I think we will continue to work in this way, finding risky environments and working towards them.
