Sweden has contacted Finland to find out how the country behaved when it recently sent several million text messages with information on the status of the crown.

“It is the Ministry of Justice that wanted to know more about the Finnish experiences,” writes MSB in an email to TT.

On Friday, Finland’s mobile phones rang with a warning in several languages. Finnish authorities sent the same text message to the entire population: “The coronavirus situation in Finland is deteriorating. Protect yourself and others. Please check regional recommendations and restrictions,” Yle reports.

So far, Corona-related mass shipments have been made three times in Finland, according to Yle. The dispatches have attracted attention in Sweden: on Friday, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) contacted us for more information.

– Sweden was in direct contact with us and asked for more information about how the operation was carried out and about the possible benefits, says Yle Pekka Tulokas, director of emergencies at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

Anna Wennerström from the MSB press service confirms that the authority has been in contact with Finland.

“It is the Ministry of Justice that wanted to know more about Finland’s experiences in sending text messages. MSB then investigated this by talking to our counterpart in Finland,” he writes.

TT has asked MSB if the Swedish authorities are planning a similar mass shipment. Wennerström writes in the email response that “at present it is just a matter of receiving knowledge and experience of how these emails work.”
