Sweden: not motivated to continue operating Bromma airport

On Monday, Swedavia presented a report on the future of Bromma Airport. The bottom line is that after the corona pandemic, it is no longer profitable to operate the airport.

– Swedavia’s assessment is that, given the new market situation, it no longer has commercial motivations to continue operating Bromma and that a consolidation of air traffic in the Stockholm region to Stockholm Arlanda Airport is possible. However, it is a basic precondition that Arlanda receives long-term conditions for development according to the needs of society, says Åke Svensson, chairman of the Swedish board of directors in a press release.
Åke Svensson also underlines that it is the politicians who must make a possible closure decision so that they also take into account aspects other than the purely commercial one.

In 2038, the Bromma airport land agreement expires and Swedavia assesses that, under the current circumstances, a closure is relevant. The report was delivered to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday.
