Sweden does not impose climate requirements for aviation support money

Aviation has a central role in terms of commitment to the climate issue. Sweden has decided up to SEK 5 billion in credit guarantees for aviation. But some weather conditions will not be linked to credit guarantees.

– In France, special requirements are established for an individual company. The starting point for Swedish government policy is that we are clear to all companies when we say that airlines operating in Sweden must comply with the guidelines we have here, says Tomas Eneroth (S), Minister of Infrastructure.

– We have the same difficult requirements for the airline to change, the form of financing should not determine what requirements we make.

Biofuel, reduction obligation and investments in electric planes are measures presented by Tomas Eneroth. Also, an air tax that affects whether it is biofuel or fossil fuel. There, work is underway for differentiated take-off and landing rates that will benefit flights with less climate impact.

Tomas Eneroth wants to see a climate smart restart for the transport sector after the crown crisis, but with other means than conditional credit guarantees.

– I hope we will get broader support within the EU behind the fossil fuel tax requirements. In the long term, it will be an important instrument to promote change in aviation.
