The 5g Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 foldable phone will launch on September 18 and can be pre-ordered now. The price tag? 22690 crowns.
Samsung’s Fold series has been plagued with glitches and has been dismissed as a luxury device that falls short. Not because the South Korean mobile giant was intimidated by it. And little by little, Fold is starting to look more like a finished product and less like a hasty prototype.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the company’s third folding phone. It is said to have more refined hinge technology than previous models and is equipped with small brushes that will clean up dust and dirt in connection with opening and closing the unit. However, it does not appear to have any case ratings, which means that Samsung cannot promise that it is not dust and moisture resistant.
An immediate improvement can be seen without unfolding the phone. The minimal front screen that was on last year’s Galaxy Fold has now been replaced with something that actually looks like a real smartphone. It’s a 6.2-inch screen that takes up significantly more of the front. With its 2260 x 816 pixel resolution and strangely elongated 25: 9 ratio, it still can’t quite match this year’s flagship.
The 7.6-inch (2208 x 1768 pixels) foldable screen is different from the Galaxy Fold, but like the Z Flip that came out earlier this year, it’s made from ultra-thin glass. It also has the dynamic 120 hertz upgrade that is present in the current Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2’s camera module really stands out, but the sensors are still, compared to the S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra, a bit more modest in terms of specs. There are 12 megapixels that are applied, both for the main camera, telephoto and ultra wide angle. These are accompanied by two selfie cameras of 10 megapixels each.
So in terms of performance? Nothing out of the ordinary for a 2020 premium model. Snapdragon 865+, 12 GB of working memory and 256 GB storage. The battery is the same size as in the Note 20 Ultra, 4500 mAh. The device supports fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging.
When it comes to software, Samsung has made an effort to slightly improve the interaction between several applications open simultaneously. One example is that you can drag files, in true drag and drop, from one application to another. Furthermore, applications such as Gmail, Youtube and Spotify have been specially adapted for the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
