Suspicion of the burning of a Koran at Rosengård in Malmö

– Witnesses must have seen one or more people who set fire to the Koran in Bennets väg and then left the scene, says Sara Andersson at the police command center in the southern region.

The alarm went off at 8:05 and since then the police have taken whatever steps are deemed appropriate to seize any aggressor. The report has not yet been drafted, but previous similar cases have been investigated as incitement against ethnic groups.

Two weeks ago Street artist Dan Park’s plan to hold an anti-Muslim rally in which Danish right-wing extremist Rasmus Paludan would burn the Koran was noted. At first, there was concern that it would degenerate, so the municipality, the police and Muslim congregations worked on the issue throughout the week.

Permission was denied, but the meeting still took place. Someone burned the Koran and others kicked the Koran at Stortorget. Approximately 15 people were arrested for acts of vandalism on the one hand and incitement to ethnic groups on the other.

Last week, the strict right-wing course also ran to demonstrate against Islam on Saturday and burn the Quran in Botkyrka, Tensta, Akalla, Sollentuna and Upplands Väsby. This was rejected on Thursday, as was a request for a counter-demonstration at Medborgarplatsen, but the police have reinforced their external presence in the event of unrest that would break out in Malmö.
