A dangerous liquid is suspected of having leaked from a package at the Postnord terminal in Vallentuna, north of Stockholm.

There the rescue service was called at 1:30 p.m., and the liquid was later thought to be the drug chlorhexidine.

– These are packages that have been shipped with a bottle in them, says Henrik Jynnesjö, management operator for the Greater Stockholm fire service.

At least one person has been taken to the hospital.

– We were there quite early and we thought it was chlorhexidine after investigating. But then it turned out that we had allergic reactions to people who had been nearby. It was in part the ambulance staff and a person they took in who had some kind of reaction.

Now the rescue service is there with “advanced indication” to find out what kind of liquid it is.

– Then we go there with a special car with a lot of equipment where we can investigate exactly what substances are on the site and send for analysis, says Henrik Jynnesjö.

Without suspicion of crime

Police currently do not suspect any crime. The authority has assisted the rescue service with barricades during the operation.

– There have been barricades that have been widened and that is mostly what we work with during the day, says Mats Eriksson, press spokesman for the Stockholm police.

He says the substance is believed to be some kind of detergent.

– Tests have been done and most indications point to it being a cleaning agent. The fluid will be sent for further testing because people have developed symptoms or problems with it.

– They have symptoms that are probably experienced as very bothersome, with a runny nose and dizziness. Why and how you still don’t know.
