On Saturday, August 29 local time, a Trump supporter was shot and killed in downtown Portland in the US state of Oregon. During the same night, a caravan with more than 600 vehicles ran over supporters of the US president along with protesters from Black Lives Matter.

Initially, Portland police did not want to go into detail about either the victim or an alleged perpetrator. But on Thursday night local time, The New York Times reported that a man in his 50s suspected of the shooting was killed during an attempted police arrest.

The suspect was a supporter of the anti-fascist left-wing extremist movement Antifa, according to The New York Times. That same day, an arrest warrant had been issued for the man. It is unknown what caused the death, but the police intervention occurred in the town of Lacey, southwest of Seattle in Washington state.

Since the African American George Floyd was killed in a police intervention in Minneapolis in May, there have been violent protests against racism and police violence in Portland. The man suspected of the fatal shooting in late August is said to have participated on several occasions, according to the newspaper.
