Turkish intelligence has released what are said to be surveillance footage showing how Swedish-Iranian Habib Chaab was tricked and kidnapped in October and then taken from Turkey to Iran.

Surveillance footage, in which Sky News has participated, shows several people identified as being accomplices to the kidnapping. This includes a woman who is allegedly the one who “lured” Chaab to Turkey.

Some of the defendants are seen, among other things, buying cable ties of various sizes at a hardware store. There is also filmed material of Chaab, both when he arrives in Turkey and when he goes to a gas station where he is said to have arranged a meeting with the woman. In connection with that meeting, Chaab is said to have been dragged into a van and drugged before being taken across the border into Iran.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Chaab is in prison. Iranian television is said to have shown an article in which he presents a confession to a crime. The recognition is believed to have been forced, according to evaluators.

Chaab is accused in Iran of being a leader of the separatist movement ASMLA, which is classified as a terrorist organization in Iran.
