Police have deployed divers in search of a surfer who disappeared after being attacked by a shark on a beach in Wylie Bay in southeastern Australia, The Guardian reports.
The attack took place at 11 a.m. last Friday at Kelp Beds Beach. Another surfer is said to have tried in vain to pull the man out of the water, according to Western Australian Prime Minister Mark McGowan.
The man’s surfboard has been found, but there is still no trace of him, says McGowan.
Another shark attack occurred on the same beach in 2017, when a 17-year-old girl died.
The waters off the southern coast of Western Australia are known to host many great white sharks and local authorities have taken protective measures in the form of, for example, helicopter reconnaissance and subsidized protective clothing, says Mark McGowan.
Add, however, that you always expose yourself to a certain risk if you go out to sea.
