Protesters in the Belarusian capital Minsk on Sunday.
Protesters in Belarus once again voiced their discontent with authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko on Sunday, this time in small groups to avoid increasingly harsh police intervention.
Protests in the capital Minsk and other cities have dragged on for four months, after Lukashenko declared himself the winner of a highly contested presidential election.
– It is impossible to govern the country when the majority does not accept you. With the protests we show that we are the majority, says Alisa, one of the protesters.
Police have deployed water cannons and messaging services like Telegram have been circumvented. According to police, just over 300 people were arrested Sunday in reference to crowd laws.
“Each march is a reminder that Belarusians will not surrender. We do not allow them to take away our freedom,” opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaya wrote in a statement.
