From 9pm on Wednesday and all day Thursday, there are no trains on the Uddevalla – Strömstad, Varberg – Borås sections and along the Kinnekulle line on the east side of Lake Vänern.

– Those sections are very sensitive because they are in the expected wind direction, says the press manager of the Swedish Transport Administration, Bengt Olsson, to TT.

Also at Frykdalsbanan in Värmland, train traffic will be suspended from Wednesday evening on the Torsby – Kil section, but there is some hope that the trains may start rolling again if the inspection on Thursday morning shows that they do not. obstacles have been blown over the tracks.

Easier in the mountains

On Wednesday night, a suitable snow area stops over much of Norrland.

On the Västerbotten County coast, there can even be so much snow that it poses a danger to the public, major property damage and major disruptions to important social functions, according to Sofia Söderberg, a meteorologist on duty at SMHI:

– Looks like it might be a snowfall that can make up for it You should probably be prepared for two decimeters in combination with fresh wind that can cause snowdrifts.

SMHI warns of difficult snowfall or very strong winds in Norrland, with the exception of Norrbotten County, Jämtlandsfjällen and Härjedalsfjällen.

Snowdrifts and slips

The Swedish Transport Administration warns that the snowstorm may hamper the roads in Västerbotten on Thursday, especially on coastal roads, including the E4.

– It will snow a lot in a short time together with wind. We are expecting snowdrifts with quite bubbly and slippery snow, says Bengt Olsson.

It remains to be seen if train traffic will be affected. There is no information yet on canceled trains in Norrland.

The Swedish Transport Administration has prepared for the anticipated snowstorm in combination with a strong north wind.

Tall vehicles exposed

Southern Sweden does not yet appear to be affected by the expected rainfall. However, there is a risk of very strong wind gusts.

– Branches and individual trees can break and there can be problems for tall vehicles, says Sofia Söderberg.

Last year, Västerbottens-Kuriren reported that 50 people were forced to seek emergency care for slip injuries on the same day. This year, the municipality of Umeå has increased the budget for winter maintenance of the bike lanes and feels prepared for the chaos of snow and slipping, according to Per Hilmerson, street operations manager.

– This money will make a noticeable difference, he tells the newspaper, adding that the money will go to both anti-skid and snow removal.
