Rescue services and police were alerted to the restaurant in Östersund shortly before midnight by witnesses who had seen smoke in the building. Nobody was hurt.
– No one was in the building, says Erik Backlin, RLC officer in the North Police Region.
The building will be burned to the ground according to the rescue service.
An important message has been delivered to the public in the area. The message says:
“There is a fire in a public hall in the center of Östersund with a strong development of smoke as a result. The rescue leader urges everyone in the area to enter and close doors, windows, and ventilation. For more information, listen to Swedish radio P4 Jämtland. “
Police: “It is the smoke that caused it”
Nearby buildings have been evacuated and residents have been moved to a nearby safe place.
– There are some stairs to nearby apartment buildings where the smoke has been too heavy. Then the rescue service has made the assessment that they should be evacuated and we help with that, says Erik Backlin.
There was no risk of spread.
– It is a separate building, so it is the smoke that has contributed to it, says Erik Backlin.
There is currently no information on what caused the fire.
