An earthquake shook the Croatian capital Zagreb today.

The epicenter was reported in the city of Petrinja, 50 kilometers from Zagreb. The earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers and had a magnitude between 6.2 and 6.4.

There are reports of building collapses. Media reports on injured people. There is commotion and the phone connections are down. People have been rescued from buildings and cars.

The earthquake has been felt in several neighboring countries. Vienna, the capital of Austria, has also experienced tremors.

Former nuclear power plant in neighboring Slovenia closed

A nuclear power plant in Slovenia has been closed as a precaution after the earthquake in Croatia.

The power plant is jointly owned by Croatia and Slovenia. Activist groups have repeatedly warned that the aging nuclear power plant could be sensitive to seismic activity.

According to previous plans, the nuclear power plant was to be closed in 2023, but in 2015 the two countries decided to extend the useful life of the plant by another 20 years.

The same area was hit yesterday by a small earthquake.
