The Swedish Public Health Agency, in consultation with, among others, infection control doctors in the Uppsala region, has decided on a stricter general advice.

In Kronoberg, two hospitals have risen in personal mode as the number of covid patients has increased in recent days

The decision on stricter general advice in Uppsala is valid until November 3, but can be extended.

Beginning October 20, all persons staying in Uppsala County are urged to avoid public transportation or other public transportation and to avoid physical contact with anyone other than those with whom they live .

This means, among other things, a deterrence from organizing or participating in parties or similar forms of social interaction.

State epidemiologist Anders Tegnell hopes that the daily lives of Uppsala residents will be affected in various ways by the councils.

– Above all, try to work more from home when possible and think before going to organized parties and hanging out with your loved ones.

Be evaluated

The stricter guidelines apply until November 3, after which the effects of the measures will be evaluated.

– Based on what we see then, we will expand them or return to the general advice that applies to others in society, says state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.

– It is possible to include that kind of advice, but our joint assessment ended in that we did not see any risk at this time, says Anders Tegnell.

Anders Tegnell is asked what the authority knows about how the virus is transmitted on public transport.

– Unfortunately, there are not many studies on how the infection spreads in public transport. A significant part of the spread of infection can take place there because that is where it is. It’s probably not unimportant, but unfortunately there are few studies, he says.

More regions

The decision on stricter advice was made after the spread of the infection increased in Uppsala and also began to feel in the form of increased pressure on medical care. Currently, 33 people are treated in hospital care for covid in the region and eight people in VAT.

– We do not rule out that this may be relevant in more regions. What’s happening now in Uppsala that we don’t see elsewhere is increased pressure on healthcare, Tegnell says.

However, the pressure on healthcare is also increasing in Kronoberg, reports P4 Kronoberg.

Location of staff in Kronoberg

According to a press release from the region, the Växjö and Ljungby hospitals will go into personal mode after the number of hospitalized patients with covid-19 increased dramatically in recent days.

The site situation is tense due to overcrowding in many departments.

“We have chosen to switch to staff mode to gather more forces, but also to point out that this is serious,” Maria Wiltz, manager of the hospital, writes in the press release.

Four new deaths with confirmed covid-19 have been reported in Sweden, according to the Swedish Public Health Agency.

Thus, a total of 5,922 infected people have died in the country. A total of 106,380 people have been confirmed to be infected with Covid-19.
