The hope that a general tightening would curb the spread of the infection in Skåne by November 17 has not been fulfilled. Therefore, strict advice must be extended, assesses Skåne Region infection control doctor Eva Melander.
October 27th General councils in Skåne tightened to curb the growing spread of Covid-19 in the region. The people of Skåne were asked, among other things, to:
• Avoid stores, shopping malls and other indoor environments where there is a risk of congestion.
• Go out only with people we live or know with each week.
• Do not travel by public transport if we can avoid it.
• Refrain from sports activities where many people are.
These sharp the rules of conduct would apply until November 17 and it was expected that they would then have had an effect on the spread of the infection.
They don’t have that. At least covid-19 is now spreading much faster than before in Skåne.
When the recommendation was tightened, 212 new cases were reported per day in Skåne, calculated on the average of the previous seven days.
Today, that number is almost three times higher: 605 new cases a day.
To lighten on the general advice, therefore, is not questioned.
Infection Control Doctor Eva Melander
– my judgment is that it is very likely that we need to do an extension of the strict advice. This is because, unfortunately, we still do not see a clear slowdown in the spread of the infection in society, says infection control doctor Eva Melander in a press release.
– Therefore, we will have a dialogue with the Public Health Agency in conjunction with the County Board of Directors, as the restricted local general councils will expire on November 17th.
Although The evaluation of the infection control doctor is decisive, the Swedish Public Health Agency and its director general, Johan Carlson, make the formal decision on stricter rules of conduct. These now apply in most Swedish regions and are time limited with the possibility of extension.
