On Saturday afternoon, the first 425 doses of the Pfizer / Biontech corona vaccine arrived in the Stockholm region. The doses are distributed to some special homes in the county and are expected to end as early as Sunday, when the vaccines are in place.
The first to vaccinate was the Attendo Sabbatsbergsbyn special accommodation. There, Stig Selin, 76, received his first dose of the vaccine in the morning.
– It feels good, very good. It didn’t hurt, he says and slaps him on the arm.
Stig Selin says he never hesitated to get vaccinated and doesn’t worry about side effects. He also urges those who are unsure to get vaccinated anyway.
– Go and get vaccinated. Don’t hesitate, says Stig Selin, who hopes to get out there and move around more after the vaccination.
At 11 o’clock I had five people in Sabbatsbergsbyn were vaccinated. During the day, about half of the 106 residents will have received the syringe, says operations manager Petra Lindhe.
– It feels great, of course. Many of us in the world have been waiting for this. There is some kind of light in the tunnel, he says.
Have there been any concerns about the vaccine among residents?
– No, I wouldn’t say that. Everyone who vaccinates today has undoubtedly said yes.
Sanne Ludvigsson, a nurse at the accommodation, was the one who received the first vaccine injection in the region. He was asked on Saturday and then did not hesitate to say yes.
– I absolutely loved it. It felt great and fun to be a part of the positive phase, she says.
From the next week, around 80,000 doses a week will be delivered in Sweden. So the region’s plan is to vaccinate all the homes one by one. However, it is not yet known for sure when the next installment will take place.
– It has been announced that more doses will arrive before the New Year. But we have not yet received a definite date, says Magnus Thyberg, vaccine coordinator in the region.
The government’s goal is to have time to vaccinate priority groups in April and the entire population over 18 in the summer.
Will the region succeed?
– We don’t focus so much on a specific goal, but on being methodical and patiently confident, keeping a good pace. It should feel safe for those who get vaccinated, says Magnus Thyberg.
