Stockholm heavily burdened: ask the defense for help

In a status report on Thursday, the Stockholm Region writes that the pressure on hospitals is high. Now 90 covid patients are being treated in the intensive care unit and 690 in geriatric and emergency hospitals.

– As the spread of infection continues at a high level, we must also be very prepared for a continued increase in the need for medical care. Emergency hospitals are working closely together to continue to open more places of care and to use the resources of the entire health system in the best way, says Health and Medical Director Björn Eriksson.

Defense aid appeals

The pressure on IVA staff has become so great that Stockholm has asked the medical staff of the Armed Forces for help, reports Swedish radio.

However, the crisis preparedness manager for the National Board of Health and Welfare, Johanna Sandwall, thinks it can be difficult. This labor is used abroad or in other regions.

– These are personnel who are already working as a nurse or doctor in a region. If the Armed Forces were to counter the system, for example by calling in reserve officers, then we would only create a hole over which the regions have no control to control, says Johanna Sandwall to SR.

– That is why we maintain this coordination of resources at the national level, he continues.

Considering the crisis situation

Another way the region is considering is to activate the crisis agreement. In this way, you can get emergency help from the municipalities and regions of Sweden, SKR.

– We value it, really hour after hour, says Björn Eriksson to SR.

In Tuesday’s situation report from Stockholm, it appears 2,834 people have died with confirmed covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. Of these, 1,224 people were sampled in a special shelter for the elderly.

There are 11 other people as of December 4.
