They wanted a dispensation.

And get it.

Stina Nilsson can compete in the World Cup.

Biathlete, former cross country star Stina Nilsson can look forward to making her Biathlon World Cup debut this fall. The International Biathlon Federation has now decided that they will allow unqualified skiers to stand on the shooting range of the World Cup.

Each nation must report two skiers and two skiers who have not met the requirements.

– This applies to the World Cups before Christmas, says the president of the international biathlon federation, Olle Dahlin, to SVT.

The reason why the Swedish biathlon team requested an exemption for Nilsson is that the IBU Cup, the level during the World Cup, is canceled before the turn of the year. And you need the IBU Cup results to qualify for the World Cup, something the 27-year-old lacks because she is new to the sport.

Östersund loses

The exception only applies this year, starting in 2021 the qualification requirement returns.

The biathlon world cup will be decided in the autumn in two places, Finnish Kontiolahti and Austrian Hochfilzen, instead of four. Östersund has lost its World Cup weekend because elite athletes outside the EU cannot travel to Sweden.
