Stina Nilsson before her biathlon competition debut

In March the news came that surprised the entire ski world. Despite her great success, Stina Nilsson had decided to give up cross-country skiing to invest in biathlon.

Now, just over seven months later, 27-year-old Stina Nilsson is ready for her first biathlon competition.

Tomorrow, just before lunch, Nilsson takes to the track with his rifle on his back during the Swedish premiere in Idre.

On Friday, Stina Nilsson and the other biathletes trained at Idre Stadium, and Nilsson was the longest-away skier of all.

– I feel like I want to keep track of everything and I’m happy to take an extra shot to be as well prepared as possible. This was really my first take, so I really don’t know how it should feel. But I can imagine doing this more times, says Nilsson after training on Friday.

“It will be very fun”

Despite the competition debut, Stina Nilsson says she is not nervous ahead of Saturday’s competition.

– No, not really. I am expectant and irritable in a positive way. It will be fun to compete and finally get started.

The uproar surrounding Stina Nilsson’s change of sport has been and is great. Nilsson herself says she takes it easy.

– I only have expectations to start, compete and do my best in my preparations. I have no more expectations than those. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.

“I thought I would say something very drastic”

Do you feel that there are high expectations of you from the outside?

– No, I don’t really think so. I think we have communicated it quite well, how complicated this sport is. And it will be a long time before he is in control of everything. I don’t feel like there are so many unnecessary expectations.

– I think most people understand that this is a process that will take time.

What shouldn’t go wrong in debut for you to be happy?

– I was going to say something very drastic, so I hope I don’t shoot anyone. Joke aside, I’ll start with the gun, carry myself through the competition regularly and haven’t done anything weird, it will be a pretty good first competition for me.
