Occupational injuries are an ongoing major challenge in the construction and industrial sectors, where large numbers of accidents continue to occur continuously each year. Accidents that could often be prevented with correct risk assessments, training and the right protective equipment show research by Skydda.
The reports that Skydda continually produces show that many people working in construction and industry are still unsure with the existing protective equipment available. Also, only one in four industrial workers say they wear their equipment and all other construction workers wear their personal protective equipment fully, which of course does not increase the chances of reducing workplace accidents.
– In our work to work towards more information, education and a reduction in injuries in construction and industry, we continuously produce reports where, among other things, we examine attitudes about protective equipment and how the equipment is used. It’s clear to us that construction and industry must now prioritize protective equipment to a greater extent than has been done before to reduce workplace accidents, says Jonas Petersson, CEO of Skydda.
One of the main reasons why the equipment is not always used is, among other things, the attitude towards the use of certain protective equipment and the lack of understanding of what can happen if it is not used. But also that the employer offers the wrong protective equipment for the work they do.
– Today, the employer has a great responsibility to create safer environments for its employees. So it’s important to make sure that you, as an employer, offer the right protective gear for the right job and make sure employees understand how to protect themselves in the right way. We, and our distributors, have the protection products, but also the knowledge about them, which today is as important as the products to ensure the right equipment for the correct work steps, says Jonas Petersson.
Protect has a wide range of products within 10 protection categories and expertise in workplace safety. In doing so, they offer products, services and training that create safer and more efficient workplaces. Where risk assessments have become an increasingly important part of the company’s offering to customers.
– By helping our clients to carry out periodic risk assessments of the work environment in which we go through each step of the work on site to detect any deficiencies, we can develop proposals for measures that strengthen safety. Having the full spectrum, from training and protection specialists to a wide range of products, makes us unique in the market, says Jonas Petersson.
