Stig Malm is dead, the family tells Aftonbladet. The old LO base was 79 years old.

Stig Malm was born in 1942 in Sundbyberg on the outskirts of Stockholm and was a trained instrument maker. After joining a union in the then Union of Metalworkers, he became president of LO between 1983 and 1993.
He coined several famous expressions
Malm was known for his frankness and coined various expressions, not without controversy. The young stockbrokers were called “finance cubs”, the Union of Social Democratic Women for the “voice of the kitten” and the Social Democratic deputies for the “scalded rats”.
Stig Malm also played a leading role in what was called the “war of the roses”, a conflict within the Social Democrats in the late 1980s, where he stood on the one hand and Finance Minister Kjell Olof Feldt on the side. another on the subject of fiscal policy. Since then, the term has been used to refer to conflicts in the social democracy.
He resigned as president of LO in 1993 when it was discovered that he had awarded a high parachute to the then CEO of construction company BPA. Later he became a municipal politician in Solna.
